MORNING SONG Poems for New Parents

This collection includes poems from the Bible, Sappho, and traditional songs as well as works by Dickinson, Yeats, Frost, and contemporary poets. The purpose of the production is to speak inner truths through humor and cosmic wisdom to new parents. The production does not identify which narrators read which poems. The narrator of Barbara Kingsolver’s poem “Ordinary Miracle” tenderly evokes the mysterious maternal wonder in pregnancy. However, in the poem “Children,” the narrator’s gritty voice severs the collection’s overall intimate tone, suggesting an error of judgment in casting.
