AN ACCIDENTAL SPORTSWRITER

by | Read by Robert Lipsyte

Biography & Memoir • 12 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2011

Unlike other sports reporters who become fans of, and even apologists for, the profession they cover, the author maintains a healthy distance from jock culture. His writing has always been about the intersection of athletics and society, and he’s not afraid to question or criticize. Lipsyte also narrates this book, and he has a certain rough charm to his voice. Slightly raspy, it reflects the love that he has for engaging writing and a story well told. He does swallow some words and approaches others with mushy diction. In the end, though, this is a labor of love, and Lipsyte conveys his ideas and opinions clearly and convincingly.
