This novel unveils a past that lies beneath the surface of present-day Wales, as well as the psychological torrents that lie beneath the placid face of adolescence. Barbara Caruso's steady reading leads the listener gently into this magical blending of the real and the imagined. Her careful variations of voice lend depth and substance to the characters. If there's a fault, it's not in the production, but in the selection of this tape for audio format. The action is leisurely to the point of static, the focus introspective, and the text both descriptive and wordy. Not a disaster . . . but not a winner either.
