SWORD OVER RICHMOND

by | Read by Richard M. Davidson

History • 16.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1986

Another Civil War book? Yes, with interesting tales to tell. Eyewitnesses recount the campaign by Federal General George B. McClellan to take Richmond in the spring of 1862. The hopeful beginning of this campaign ended in defeat because of "Stonewall" Jackson's campaign in the Valley of Virginia and the counteroffensive of Robert E. Lee, known as the Seven Days Battles. Davidson reads this work well. His resonant voice masterfully presents the numerous accounts; various accents in no way distract the listener. There are a few points where it is hard to distinguish Wheeler's narrative from the actual recollections. (This type of work would lend itself to a full-cast presentation.) Nonetheless, this is a joy to listen to. M.T.F. © AudioFile 2000, Portland, Maine [Published: DEC/JAN 01]
