BRYANT AND MAY ON THE LOOSE

Filled with the quirky characters we expect from English mysteries, this novel has charm and wit as Detectives Bryant and May, of Scotland Yard’s Peculiar Crimes Unit, go about their crime solving. Tim Goodman clearly communicates Bryant’s expositions on the little-known history of the setting, King’s Cross, London, giving insight as to why the police establishment is frustrated with the PCU. The PCU has been officially disbanded, but May gathers the octogenarian Bryant to address a politically sensitive series of ghastly crimes in the developing area of King’s Cross. Without police resources, this band of sleuths uses their unique skills, each with his or her own voice and accent. Little surprises Bryant even when he’s faced with a man wearing a stag’s head.
