THIS EARTH

by | Read by Julia Cameron

Personal Growth • 70 min. • Audio Program • ©

Recorded over four days and nights in the mountain serenity of Boulder, Colorado, This Earth is meant to be a natural union of music (by Wheater) and poetry (by Cameron). In this, it succeeds. Wheater's ethereal flute fits well with the tones of the readers. The poetry itself leaves much to be desired, hinging its limited imagery and sometimes antiquated language on overused themes, such as bread, wine and water, in order to move toward a theme of global unity. The themes in This Earth are undoubtedly important, but Cameron more often than not fails to capture their uniqueness until the final poem, "Why We Write." Overall, the recording's production quality is excellent, and its intention is certainly admirable. R.A.P. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: NOV/DEC 97]
