The Blessing Way is the first of Hillerman's novels featuring Lt. Joe Leaphorn. The story concerns a wolf-witch abroad in the high desert and a series of grisly murders. The Leaphorn stories are wonderful for the audio format. Sadly, unlike most Books on Tape productions, the narrator's voice is poorly matched to the material. Reader Marosz has an almost accentless voice with a narrow range of expression--rather like that of a news reader. He seems to be hurrying through the story, diminishing Hillerman's ability to draw the listener into the landscape. B.V. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: DEC 93]
