George Guidall and Tony Ward trade off the microphone in this haunting reading of Connolly’s tenth novel featuring private eye Charlie Parker. Ward gives a dry, almost weary note to the parts of the book told from the perspective of Parker, hired to help a one-time child killer who is threatened when a child abduction occurs in his town. Guidall delivers all the other parts, including the scenes involving visiting gangsters and those from the point of view of a man haunted by ghosts of his past. Connolly’s slightly supernatural take on the classic private eye is wholly unique, and Ward and Guidall serve this book well in bringing it to life.
