Fiction • 6 hrs. • Anthology • © 1995

This collection of fifteen short stories by the author of Stones for Ibarra includes memoirs, as well as several stories featuring Sara and Richard Everton, presented first in Stones. Kimberly Schraf gives a clear, melodic and expressive reading of this uneven collection which is not, as a whole, well suited to audio. The sections with characters from Doerr's novels don't translate well to readers not familiar with them, and some stories feel unfinished on audio but might not have this effect when read to oneself. The memoir pieces and "Evie," the last story, are the most effective. This collection can be enjoyed most by those familiar with Doerr's other work.
