Actor, director and freelance writer Vogel uses an excellent Hispanic accent for Brand's Mexican and New Mexican banditos, as well as a terrific Texas drawl for portraying Stefan Gregory, sheriff of San Pablo Valley. With clear enunciation and even pacing, Vogel adds drama and reality to Brand's astonishing storytelling powers. Is Blas Lavera a cold-blooded murderer, and will he and Liseta Juarez live happily ever after? Though graphic language and descriptions are used to emphasize the life-and-death struggles of these pioneers, the Brand-Vogel combination results in an easylistening immersion in New Mexico's early days.
