In the tradition of Christian fantasy, there are strong elements of faith and the importance of family and traditional gender roles in this story of two “tumanhofers” who meet in an isolated city that is populated by a horde of unruly 6-year-old children. Ariadne Meyers’s narration moves along at a good pace as she effectively differentiates the children. She also deals aptly with the goat Tak and the little dragons who are important characters, as well as the Old One, the librarian who unintentionally provides refuge to the young protagonists. Although the character Bealomondore appeared in the first two books of The Chiril Chronicles, knowing his earlier experiences is not essential to enjoying this last book in the trilogy.
