This book presents the writings of hundreds of theologians from the earliest centuries of Christianity to the present day in the modern vernacular. Some of the authors, such as C.S. Lewis and John Wesley, are well known, and others seldom cited. Bill DeWees has a clear, gentle voice that helps bring the passages to life. But because this is a daily devotional, there’s no continuity among the entries. Each is engaging on its own, but listening to several in a row is distracting. Taking the entries one at a time, the listener will find this book works in audio, but for long periods it doesn’t work quite as well. Each entry includes a bit of biography, so the listener can place the writer in history. A suggested daily Bible reading also is included.
