THE SCARIFYERS: THE MAGIC CIRCLE

An episode of the SCARIFYERS is like a literary Saturday morning cartoon—think Sherlock Holmes teaming up with Scooby Doo in the tweedy England of the 1930s. The acting is first-rate. With many of the narrators being longtime “Doctor Who” veterans, they’ve got their comic-adventure timing down. Featuring spotless sound effects and music, this installment finds Professor Dunning (Terry Molloy) teaming up with Harry Thumper Crow (David Warner) to battle the spirit of a 1920s music hall star, among other lost souls, as they search for their dear missing friend and colleague, Detective Inspector Lionheart. Art imitates life as this episode also serves as a fitting tribute to the wonderful character actor Nicholas Courtney (1929-2011), who played Lionheart in the first five episodes of "Doctor Who."
