DUMPLING DAYS

In Lin’s newest book about Pacy and her family, they’re off to Taiwan to celebrate Grandmother's sixtieth birthday. Pacy is anxious about being away for a month and about the art classes her mom has planned for her. Angela Lin narrates with an understanding of family interactions. Older sister Lissy is sarcastic and imperious, younger sister Kiki is incessantly questioning, Dad is proud and authoritative, and Mom is kind and sympathetic. As Pacy, Lin is sensitive and open to new experiences. Lin's use of inflection and pace brings the listener fully into each situation. The sprinkling of Chinese words sounds completely natural.
