With honesty and energy, William Dufris delivers Pastor Mark Driscoll’s views on marriage, marital friendship and headship, sin, his wife’s sexual problems, forgiveness, and pornography. In contrast, Tavia Gilbert’s delivery of wife Grace’s views on healing, pregnancy, sin, respect, and submission is somewhat jarring. Dufris narrates the male point of view, which is most of the book, with crisp clarity—except for the section on sexual do’s and don’ts, when his voice becomes strained and uncomfortable. The couple’s sexual history and their sexual and marital conflict, due to Grace’s early experience with a sexual assault, portray a marriage on the rocks. Although the Driscolls’ candor reveals a broken relationship, it also reveals that restoration is possible when it’s rebuilt on a solid foundation of Christ. Still some may find the sexual content of this book too explicit. G.D.W. 2013 Audies Finalist © AudioFile 2012, Portland, Maine [Published: MARCH 2012]
