In this Lieutenant Eve Dallas mystery, Susan Ericksen uses a brisk reading pace and a wide range of regional accents to portray fictional Hollywood royalty. She portrays Eve exceptionally well, but the voice of the flamboyant Peabody, Eve’s partner, is the real star. Ericksen finds the perfect vocal characterization for the detective in the pink boots. The story features a film being made that is based on one of Eve’s famous cases, and the murder victim is the actress who plays Peabody. Ericksen brings drama and intrigue to the drowning. She also enhances the repartee between the various characters, especially between Eve and her billionaire Irish husband, Roarke, and, of course, between Eve and Peabody. S.C.A.
