TWISTED ROOT

In the style of a BBC period piece, Victorian "independent inquirer" William Monk, an anachronistically P.C. hero, investigates the sudden disappearance of a penniless bride-to-be and her rich fiancé's coachman. Narrator Jones wraps his handsome voice around the boldly drawn characters, making the most of the numerous conversations to vivify them. Most of the period detail has been cut out of this otherwise excellent abridgment, superintended by the always reliable producer Paul Ruben.
