TWO DEGREES WEST

by | Read by Paul Shelley

Contemporary Culture • 14 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1999

Only one longitudinal meridian runs straight through England from northwestern Scotland to southeastern England, "Two Degrees West." Nicholas Crane is determined to walk every inch of it, not straying from the meridian more than 1000 feet on either side. As he tromps through bogs, highlands, mountains, pastures, and a myriad of towns, the listener learns of the Ordinance Survey that mapped England, a brief history of each area, others who have traveled there or written about it, and, of course, Crane's adventures. Shelley reads all in a matter-of-fact tone, which suits the text perfectly as Crane seems unflappable no matter what obstacle he faces. Shelley's enthusiasm never wanes, nor does Crane's on this two-month journey of adventure. M.B.K. © AudioFile 2001, Portland, Maine [Published: FEB/MAR 01]
