Young Adult • 75 min. • Abridged • ©

The very clear and distinct narration of Adam Menken brings to life "To Build A Fire" and "Bataard," short stories showing man's determination and struggles in the frozen North. The pace is very even, quickening appropriately at the climax. Although Menken's voice is expressive, it's not overly emotional or maudlin because he lets London's words build the suspense. Accents change for the small amount of dialogue. The attractive cover shows a warmly dressed man attempting to build a fire in the snow. C.J.M. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: JAN 94]
