The last in the Mysteries of Winterthurn series features detective-hero Xavier Kilgarvan's final case wherein he unravels a baffling triple murder and is reunited with his beloved Perdita. John McDonough embraces this tale from a bygone era and puts the listener into the gray, gothic atmosphere about which the author writes. His tone is sometimes lugubrious but he's often lighthearted, too. Always dignified, he commands the language and makes the listener believe this is a novel of great importance.
