Mystery & Suspense • 6 hrs. • Abridged • © 1999

A white supremacist group and a disenchanted Russian émigré cabbie with a biology background team up to visit bacterial disaster upon New York City. It's up to forensic pathologists Jack Stapleton and Laurie Montgomery to stop them. Jason Culp is serviceable in propelling the neatly abridged action forward, aided in places by scene-setting music. The cabbie's Russian accent and Stapleton's decency and intelligence are more believable than some of the coincidences that make the story work. But in general this is an exciting listen, spiced with Cook's considerable medical knowledge. J.B.G. © AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: AUG/SEP 99]
