Marguerite Gavin continues narrating Stabenow’s Star Svensdotter science-fiction trilogy with this second book. As a mining enterprise is set up in space, Star tells the story of the crew’s journey to the latest frontier. There they have an opportunity to become entrepreneurs in developing self-contained habitats in an environment that is reminiscent of the Wild West. Gavin portrays strong emotions and intense interactions between Star and her crew, her family, and a few colorful adversaries. Gavin has developed a persona for Star that strikes a balance between Star’s wisecracking nature, her strength, and her vulnerability.
