Dressler matter-of-factly narrates this tale of the attempted destruction of the inferior Homo sapiens through a virulent form of TB unleashed by the Old People. Dressler's even pacing and consistent intonation bring credence and believability, adding to the suspense built by Robinson. The characters are mostly male, but each is carefully characterized carefully. Artie Banks, a TV journalist, and some of the remaining members of his Suicide Club search for answers about the unique species that developed simultaneously, but separately, from Man as we know him.
