The sequel to MIDDLE SCHOOL: THE WORST YEARS OF MY LIFE follows seventh- grader Rafe as he moves to a new school and learns some hard lessons about family and friendship. Narrator Bryan Kennedy’s young-sounding voice and comic tone make the clueless hero sympathetic. When Rafe's family has to move, they’re shoehorned into Grandma's house, but good things happen, too. Rafe gets a shot at art school and the chance to solve a family mystery. Kennedy is spot-on as the puzzled outsider, especially when he sometimes talks directly to the listener. There are laughs and lots of action but not a lot of depth. The production can connect listeners to a PDF of the graphic novel part of this book, but it makes for an uneven listening experience.
