After Joyce Bean delivers the foreword with measured grace, narrator Fred Stella brings welcome life to this somewhat ponderous guide to uncovering your hidden creativity. In it, the author explains how the left brain (language, sequential organization, judgment) often squelches the more free-form and authentic energy of the right hemisphere. On a conscious level, this happens in the form of eight lies we tell ourselves. He shows how exercises like journaling, intuitive drawing, and writing with your non-dominant hand can free up the revolutionary ideas we habitually censor. Though officious pride infects the writing occasionally, the author is a humane and insightful teacher. But even with his obvious desire to help, the book would be a challenge to absorb without Stella’s verve and engagement. T.W © AudioFile 2012, Portland, Maine [Published: JULY 2012]
