THE WHITE CHIP

Arthur Addison has just the right voice for reading Westerns: no accent, no drawl, just a low-key style and mellow voice, which I equate with the West. At first, the recording has a soporific effect as the listener becomes acquainted with the diverse group of people who have banded together on a quest to find the Lost Dutchman mine in Arizona's Superstition Mountains. When the action in the story picks up, Addison's voice helps provide an ambience that transports the listener to the mountainous desert and makes the anxiety seem real as the characters try to outrace a volcano and bandits.
