It doesn't get much more suspenseful than this. Larry Watson's psychological thriller, set in 1957, engages Mercer County Sheriff Jack Nevelson in a potential scandal following a fatal car crash that could tear up the quiet town of Bentrock, Montana. Watson's writing is tight, with the attention to detail that makes the story sing from the page. As an audiobook, that detail is masterfully sung out by veteran actor Beau Bridges, who gives real life to Nevelson. The marriage of Watson's words with Bridges's characterizations could well leave the listener wondering why anyone would read this novel when he or she could listen to it!
