Authors Zolli and Healy examine a wide variety of systems—from the human body and re-forestation efforts to fish activity on a coral reef and gang violence in Chicago—in order to understand why some systems are more resilient than others. Sean Runnette narrates the text much like a professor lecturing to a class. Quotations are set off from the rest of the narrative through the use of accents, but they’re often more distracting than helpful. While Runnette competently navigates his way through the stories used by Zolli to share his experiences and conclusions, his tone lacks the inflection that would make this audiobook truly engaging.
