VELVET ELVIS Repainting the Christian Faith

by | Read by Rob Bell

Philosophy & Religion • 4 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2012

Bell is one of those rare authors who read their own work with skill. He uses crisp, clear diction to deliver relevant questions about the Bible, faith, and God. Saying that “Christian is a great noun but a poor adjective,” he encourages Christians to question their spirituality with an open mind, especially if they feel something is missing in their Christian walk. As narrator, Bell is both energetic and precise in his exploration of why Christians need to test everything they believe, although his reasoning can sound vague and confusing. He challenges Christians who have doubts about their faith to evaluate what they believe with critical questions separated from churches’ legalistic hypocrisy. Although Bell’s capable delivery is thought provoking, his message has the potential to cause doubt and division. G.D.W. © AudioFile 2012, Portland, Maine [Published: OCTOBER 2012]
