WONDER TALES OF DOGS AND CATS

From numerous lands, these are folk tales in which a cat, a dog, or both take prominent, often pivotal, roles. The fantastic predominates, and magic pervades, with kings and queens and djinni and evil fairies among many other occult dabblers. Reader John McDonough reads in a luxurious, expressive, sometimes stentorian voice, exaggerating the narrative for his young presumed audience. He makes some distinctions among the characters but not a lot, and he usually doesn't have to because the stories are mostly narrative. This is the type of book that might win a Newbery Award.
