THE EXCEPTIONS

Two children’s lives are forever altered by the same event, a Mob murder. Cristofano continues with the territory of his first novel, THE GIRL SHE USED TO BE; this time the point of view is that of mobster Jonathan Bovaro. Dan John Miller’s voice and tone are spot-on. The story is not a typical Mafia yarn. At the age of six Melody McCartney and her parents witnessed a Mob hit and entered the Witness Protection Program. Bovaro has a sense of guilt that weighs on his conscience, which Miller does a fine job of fleshing out. When Bovaro is unable to tie up the “loose end” that is Melody, Miller leads us up and down the East Coast as Bovaro deviates from the plan his family has laid out for him, and more importantly, for Melody.
