WENDY AND THE LOST BOYS The Uncommon Life of Wendy Wasserstein

by | Read by Caroline Erin

Biography & Memoir • 15.75 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2011

Salamon’s well-researched profile of Wasserstein, the first female playwright to win a Tony Award, leans heavily on interviews with Wasserstein’s inner circle, including NEW YORK TIMES theater critic Frank Rich and Lincoln Center Artistic Director Andre Bishop. Thematic emphasis is placed on the secrecy of her privileged family and on her plays and essays as uniquely representative of women who matured in the 1960s and 1970s. Caroline Erin offers a superbly vibrant and accessible narration. Her reading is warm, precise, and multidimensional. Wasserstein’s warmth is apparent in the recollections recounted here. The work is a bit too gossipy, but legions of Wasserstein fans will learn more about this woman, who chose to be a single mother not long before her untimely death less than six years later.
