SECRETS OF THE MAGIC RING

Nick Podehl’s narration stirs up magic and mystery in this tale of 9-year-old Paul and a ring that grants wishes. Podehl’s assorted voices bring out the lively interaction between the characters, including the adventurous protagonist, his exuberant Aunt Vicki, and his talkative dog, Clem. The fairy community is represented with equal adroitness, especially Jasmine, a plucky fairy assigned to watch over Paul and keep the ring from complicating his life. Podehl’s pacing creates a tone of wonder and frivolity amid the mystery surrounding a boy who lives in the woods. This is a bright story about gratitude.
