Mystery & Suspense • 6 hrs. • Abridged • © 1992, 1994

This double audio features Smokey Brandon, ex-cop, now forensic specialist, who has seen the seamier side of life. Ex-cons, Nevada deserts and risky assumptions combine to make A World the Color of Salt spine-tingling until the very end. Smokey reappears in Carcass Trade to investigate the identities of a woman burned in a car and a murdered biker. The Durands make an interesting team of narrators. Jennifer reads the female parts and some of the high-voiced men; John, the males. Both use characterizations and intonation to differentiate characters. Unfortunately, the recording is uneven and tinny. The male voices are more difficult to hear than the female. Nevertheless, this exciting mystery package gets its suspense across to the listener.
