When it's done well, there's nothing better than hearing an author read her own work. And actress Molly Ringwald excels at bringing her own characters to life. Her novel is told as a series of stories, with some characters recurring and others confined to just one story. The narratives revolve around Greta, who is dealing with the aftermath of fertility treatments and a cheating husband. Ringwald reads with enthusiasm and emotion, highlighting the key points of each story. Her even delivery, the only constant in her characters' lives of turmoil, carries the listener through the interconnections. The title story, which starts out slowly and builds with emotion, is where Ringwald's acting experience especially shines.
