In 1962, Seattle hosted a World’s Fair; in this novel, fictitious Roger Morgan is the stunning young visionary behind both the fair and its breathtaking Space Needle. Thirty-nine years later, at age 70, he attempts to restore his role as “Mr. Seattle” by running for mayor. Richard Poe crisply narrates Morgan’s recollections of his glory days and his accounts of 2001 political confrontations. He provides entertaining impressions of the celebrities Roger accompanied through the fair, including Elvis, and instills verve and a bit of desperation in the voice of Helen Gulanos, the investigative reporter who is digging for political dirt in the election.
