A TRAMP ACROSS THE CONTINENT

by | Read by Andre Stojka

Biography & Memoir • 6.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2011

In 1884 and 1885, the author walked from Cincinnati to Los Angeles by himself. Lummis’s firsthand account is unrelentingly lighthearted. At the same time, his journey is regularly punctuated by near-death experiences and extraordinary feats of endurance. Lummis devotes the bulk of his narrative to his tour across the Southwest from southern Colorado to the Arizona border. He’s a great fan of both Latino and Pueblo Indian cultures, and his account of the pueblos of New Mexico at Christmastime is priceless. Andre Stojka’s narration is clear and as upbeat as Lummis's text. His pronunciation of Western place-names is excellent. F.C. © AudioFile 2013, Portland, Maine [Published: JANUARY 2013]
