Narrator Patricia Gallimore is consistently on target with the diverse characters, shifting emotion, and tranquil as well as risky situations that arise. Her best creation is DCI Carrick's rich Scottish accent—he's known to keep his most biting remarks to Gaelic! Finding a headless corpse in a house that both Ingrid and Alex want to purchase is just the beginning of this fast-paced mystery that also takes on the horrors of human trafficking.
