Any fan of baseball in the 1950s and '60s will remember Bobby Richardson, a solid player on the field and a devout man off it. He writes about growing up in South Carolina, his eleven-year career as a Yankee, and life after baseball. While narrator Bill DeWees doesn't imitate the many players Richardson played with, he lends a comforting, almost folksy, voice to this memoir. And that's what it needs. As Richardson reminisces, DeWees solidly delivers his stories about his devotion to God, his relationship with Mickey Mantle, and the strains on his own marriage. While there's nothing too earthshaking in either content or narration, but this is an enjoyable listen for fans of the era. M.B. © AudioFile 2013, Portland, Maine [Published: JANUARY 2013]
