SHIVER

Sam is a single mother who's going to school and driving a repo truck at night. Narrator Shannon McManus portrays her as determined to succeed, fiercely independent, and intensely protective of her son. Even the street people she encounters at night don't intimidate her. But one night she stumbles upon Daniel, an FBI agent pretending to be a crook, who's been beaten to a pulp and left for dead by drug dealers--until Sam finds him. Then things really take off--and so does McManus. Her interpretation of Sam and Daniel manages to layer cynicism, regret, vulnerability, and a whole bunch of annoyance at each other into an engaging listen.
