THE AVIATOR'S WIFE

History takes a backseat to fiction in this imagining of the marriage of Charles and Anne Lindbergh. The story paints an unattractive picture of Charles as a distant, often absent, but always demanding autocrat and Anne as an unhappy, wimpy, and unfulfilled whiner. From Anne's point of view, narrator Lorna Raver reflects on the couple's life, moving from Charles's final days in 1974 back to the beginning of their story in 1927. Anne, the privileged, well-educated daughter of an ambassador, sounds like an immature, unsophisticated doormat to an uncaring hero.
