THE RUNAWAY BUNNY; THE STORY OF BABAR; GOODNIGHT MOON

by | Read by Catherine Zeta-Jones, Michael Douglas, Mark Stone, Trio 21

Children Ages 4-6 • 1.5 hrs. • Audio Program • © 1942

This compilation audiobook features three timeless children’s stories set to classical music. Catherine Zeta-Jones’s mellifluous voice conveys mother bunny’s smooth and steady responses to the little bunny’s precocious questions in THE RUNAWAY BUNNY. Her narration is interwoven with an ensemble featuring piano, violin, and cello music. Though Michael Douglas’s narration of THE STORY OF BABAR is articulate and the inflections expressive, the volume of the piano music is at times overwhelming, especially when the narration occurs simultaneously with the music. Baritone Mark Stone’s lyrical rendition of GOODNIGHT MOON creates a fresh listening experience that may be appealing mainly to adults since the rhythm and words of the original story are less distinguishable in this musical version. Shorter versions of two stories are also included in this collection. M.F. © AudioFile 2013, Portland, Maine [Published: JANUARY 2013]
