This autobiography of legendary folk singer Woody Guthrie read by his son, Arlo Guthrie, covers the years of the Great Depression, spent with hobos on trains in the western part of this country. Perhaps because the songs (This Land is Your Land, Follow the Drinking Gourd, and Bound for Glory) are so much a part of the tale, the audio rendition calls for more singing and less talking. The narrative is not polished, but even so evokes the elder Guthrie's gruff singing voice. Worth a purchase to round out a biographical collection; otherwise, skip it and get the book and a recording of either father or son. E.F. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: OCT 93]
