Sabine has always known that she can never reveal the truth about her life--or rather lives: She lives each day twice, shifting between two different families and two different personas. Narrator Matilda Reed matches Sabine's desperation as she struggles with the inability to be completely whole in either life and attempts to find a way to exist in only one world. While the story is set in Boston, Reed's heavy Australian accent, as well as a text peppered with Australian vernacular, may be distracting to American listeners. The Australian author and publisher may not realize this disconnect to what otherwise would be an emotionally charged listening experience.
