THE OPERATOR David Geffen Builds, Buys and Sells the New Hollywood

by | Read by Scott Brick

Biography & Memoir • 18 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2000

If you like entertainment gossip, back-stabbing, boardroom intrigues, and rock star name-dropping ad nauseum, then this book is for you. It's the story of movie, music, and television executive, and all-around money-grubbing guy, David Geffen, currently a partner in Dream-Works. Narrator Scott Brick has the perfect voice for this work: strong, steady, unemotional, and clear. He lays out the words for us with superb diction, allowing King's text to be the focus. Brick does not attempt any characters, and that works, too. His pacing is excellent, and he moves the story along. But the best part of the book is that it chronicles the story of a man who was the explosive growth of rock music in the 1970s, '80s and '90s.
