ECHOES FROM A DISTANT LAND

by | Read by David Tredinnick

Fiction • 18.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2012

This coming-of-age story set in Kenya begins with the ordinary trials of Wangira, a boy deep in adolescence. As Wangira's daily life is revealed and the plot quickens as the promises of modernization tug at tribal life, David Tredinnick's deep tone and rapid pace keep the listener's interest. He chooses an interesting approach in narrating this novel, using a British accent for the narrative parts of the story. The dialogue, however, is infused with a raspy timbre and an African-inflected accent. Tredinnick was a smart choice for this masculine story, which includes such details as childhood rivalries and the sexual rituals of early adulthood.
