THE BURNING AIR

The multiple narrators of this thrilling mystery, reminiscent of a Ruth Rendell work, are one and all superlative. A sense of foreboding prevails as listeners learn about Darcy Kellaway, who believes he's been deprived of a scholarship to a prestigious school because the headmaster gave it to his own son. The standout is narrator Samuel Roukin, who deftly creates Darcy as a home-schooled boy and then a successful adult who single-mindedly plans revenge on the entire McBride clan. Adding to Kellaway's intrigue, and Roukin's accomplishment, is that listeners are, at first, unsure whether he's male or female. Each character and narrator adds to the compelling story.
