The story of Espen is told over the course of WWII during the Nazi occupation of Norway as Espen becomes involved in the Norwegian resistance and ends up a spy. The strength of this novel is in its historical details. Jeff Woodman gives the listener a rich narration with a strong delivery of the particulars of spying and living amid the Nazi regime. At times, Woodman's differentiation between characters is subtle, making it difficult to be sure which character is speaking. Yet he captures the emotions and suspense of the story well. A detailed author's note at the end tells the listener what parts of the novel are based on real-life accounts. S.B.T. © AudioFile 2013, Portland, Maine [Published: APRIL 2013]
