HOMER'S DAUGHTER

Nausicaa, the first-person narrator of this novel, resents that only men--Homer's sons--are allowed to sing the great stories. As she maneuvers to save her father's kingdom in the ancient Greek world, she gathers stories to weave into her own epic. Narrator Karen Cass brings intrigue, a budding romance, and pitched battle to life with the cool detachment of the exceptionally bright teenager that Nausicaa is--along with a teenager's occasional moodiness and petulance. The many characters are clearly delineated, and the pace never flags. Cass's reading carries us into a story as modern as it is thrilling.
