THE CLEANER OF CHARTRES

Agnes, one of the cleaners of the medieval Cathedral of Chartres, leads a mysterious life bound together by a web of secrets, mistaken identity, and a horrific loss. Found 20 years earlier sleeping on the cathedral's north porch, she remains an enigma to all. Pamela Garelick's thoughtful, even pace lends this story a predominant tone of somber reflection, with occasional lively sparks reminiscent of the colorful stained glass gracing the vast cathedral. She pronounces French names and terms smoothly. The suspense builds as the townspeople strive to get to the bottom of the secrets that threaten Agnes's peaceful life.
